Series includes applications for permits for operation; driver applications and backgound criminal investigations; correspondence with owners pertaining to regulations, inspections, insurance, and complaints; order sheets; owners and renewal sheets; taxicab records; dockets pertaining to hearings to reconsider taxicab driver applications; case files involving Metropolitan Transit Authority and Interstate Commerce Commission; certifications; and applications by companies for route changes or new services. Applications and driver records are arranged alphabetically by applicant. Case files are arranged chronologically.

The Public Service Commission was established in 1910 to regulate public utilities and transportation companies doing business in Maryland (Chapter 180, Acts of 1910). Initially composed of three members, the commission currently consists of five members appointed by the governor for five-year terms.
